Sharon voters to weigh zoning change, police position Sharon Advocate
If approved, Town Warrant Articles 13-15 will make it possible for the town to move forward on a plan to utilize the Sacred Heart School property.
Selectmen Chairman Bill Heitin said collectively the three articles give selectmen authority to enter into a long-term ground lease agreement on the property with a for-profit private or public company.
The arrangement is the exact type that was used to develop the Wilber School property and is currently in the works with the Horizons for Youth property, he said.
There are several proposal options, but Heitin is in favor of using the property as a sports complex which could include indoor amenities such as a swimming pool, tennis court and an athletic field.
“I’d like to see something to best fit that area where sports activities are already occurring --- and something that can be utilized during the winter months,” Heitin said.
The Planning Board favorably recommended the changes at Wednesday’s meeting (see related story).
